KAA Gent took a very good start against KRC Genk, but Bizot kept the home team level with some fine saves. Genk reacted very efficiently: a strike from Pozuelo and a penalty from Karelis gave Genk a 2-0 advantage before the break. The second half was less attractive and the score didn't change anymore, leaving Gent behind with no points.

Not much happened in an unattractive first half at STVV, but that changed after the break. Gerkens scored twice in four minutes. Mitrovic brought Gent back in the game with a well-placed header, but he received his second yellow card later in the game. With ten against eleven Gent still searched for the equaliser, but it was the home team that managed to score the 3-1 in the end.

KAA Gent has been eliminated in the quarter finals of the Croky Cup, away at KV Oostende. Gent had the best chances before the break, but Matton hit the post and Ovono saved a penalty from Saief. In the second half, Cyriac had the first real chance for the home team and scored, and a few minutes later Dejaegere was sent off after a second yellow card. Gent was not able to equalise and saw Oostende go through to the semi finals.

Last season our former captain Sven Kums made the Champions League team of the group stage, this year our free kick specialist Danijel Milicevic gained a spot in the Europa League team of the group stage.
He scored KAA Gent's first goal in the group stage with an incredible free kick against SC Braga (1-1). In the home game against Konya, his assist lead to Neto’s winning goal. Later, Danijel scored the final goal in the home game against Shakhtar (3-5). Furthermore, he also scored the equaliser in the important game against Braga in our Ghelamco Arena (2-2). Milicevic completed a succesful campaign in which he made the difference in key moments.
Together with Leon Bailey of KRC Genk, Milicevic represents the Belgian teams in this Europa League team. Edin Dzeko, AS Roma attacker and Milicevic' teammate at the Bosnian national team, also made the team.
In Nyon the draw has been made for the Round of 32 in the UEFA Europa League. KAA Gent will there face English side Tottenham Hotspur. The first leg will be played at Thursday 16/02/2017 in the Ghelamco Arena, the return is scheduled for Thursday 23/02/2017 at Wembley.
On matchday 18 of the Jupiler Pro League KAA Gent didn't manage to get the three points against KV Oostende. The visitors took the lead after a brilliant shot from distance by El Ghanassy. Coulibaly hit the bar, but in the second half he managed to equalize with a blistering volley. Oostende resisted the pressure from Gent and went home with a point.

KAA Gent and Panamanian club Chorilo FC have reached an agreement about the 18 year old forward Jose Luis Rodriguez.
On the sixth and last matchday of the Europa League, KAA Gent managed to qualify for the next round in injury time. Gent dominated the game, but struggled to create chances. While Braga, Gent’s rival for qualification, lost against Shakhtar, Gent’s time to qualify was running out. In the 94th minute, Coulibaly drove the ball into the corner and brought the game to an astonishing climax as he secured Gent’s place in the next round.
KAA Gent travelled to Konya to complete the sixth and last matchday in the group stage of the Europa League. Gent's delegation received a warm welcome upon arrival.
Only just before kickoff the decision was made that the game would be played on the icy pitch of Het Kuipje. The circumstances were very difficult to play good football and the first half saw few chances. In the second half Gent did get enough opportunities to claim the three points, but the chances were missed. So the game ended like it begun, 0-0 was the final score.
