Birger Verstraete is leaving KV Kortrijk and signed a 3,5 years contract with our club. So the 22 years old midfielder is going to stay with KAA Gent till 2020.
Birger is very enthusiastic about his transfer to KAA Gent: “It is great to sign for a club as big as KAA Gent. It took a bit longer than expected but now I feel very satisfied. This is an important step in my career. I am a player who will always give 100%, a born fighter and I want to help KAA Gent to finish in the top 6. My short stay with Excel Mouscron has made me much stronger mentally. My favorite position is the number 6 or 8, but I have also been playing on the number 10 position or even as a leftback.”
Birger was born on 16th April 1994 in Ostend where he played in the Youth Category till he signed for Club Brugge at the age of 15. In 2012 he made his first appearance in the first team where he would play a total of 11 matches. After that he had a loan spell at Excel Mouscron. In 2015 he made a transfer to KV Kortrijk and that meant his breakthrough in the Jupiler Pro League. His ‘grinta’ and his perseverance made him popular with the KV Kortrijk fans. Verstraete has alreade had three call ups for the Belgian -21 team.
