On the last matchday of the regular competition, Gent threw away their place in the top four. In the first half they lacked sharpness up front, and at the other end Nardi had to make several saves to stop Oostende going in front. 7 minutes after the break, however, the visitors took the lead through Hornby. The Buffalos reacted: Kums struck the post, before Cuypers got the equaliser. They then went in search of a second, but were dealt a heavy blow when Depoitre came off injured after they had already brought on all their subs. 10-man Gent took risks, and were punished when Bätzner scored at the other end. With the 2-1 loss, the Buffalos finished the league in fifth, and so are heading to the Europe Play-Offs.
