Away at Anderlecht, KAA Gent went a goal down after only four minutes through a great free kick from Kums. When Verstraete was shown the red card after half an hour, after a decision referred to VAR, the game already looked lost for Gent. However, despite being down to ten men, the Buffalos showed character and created chances, though were not able to convert any of them. With fifteen minutes to go, Kums sealed victory for the home side with his second of the afternoon. Gent played the final minutes with nine men after Plastun was sent off.
In a rather lacklustre first half, there were hardly any opportunities for either team and then to make matters worse Stojanovic scored following a defensive blunder. The Buffalos however stood up in the second half and recovered from a bad situation. First, Yaremchuk headed in a great cross from Verstraete and after a handball from Mboyo, Limbombe scored with a cracking shot of eleven metres. In the final minutes, Yaremchuk headed in his second of the evening to make the final score, 3-1.
KAA Gent suffered a disappointing defeat away at R Excel Mouscron. In a close first half, Amallah put the home side ahead with a deflected effort. Then Gent were awarded a penalty after a foul on Limbombe, but the referee changed his mind after a debatable VAR review. On the stroke of half-time, Van Durmen doubled the home side's advantage. The Buffalos were unable to get back in the game in the second half, and Pierrot's goal finished off any hope they had. Chakvetadze got one back just before the final whistle to make it 3-1, but by then the home side already had the three points in the bag.
In the opening game of the 12th matchday of the Jupiler Pro League, the Buffalos controlled the first half, and just after half an hour Chakvetadze headed the home side into a deserved lead. Thanks to a deflected equalizer from Osimhen Thoelene, Charleroi were able to finish the half on level terms, but three minutes into the second half Chakvetadze got his second to restore Gent's lead. Charleroi were unable to get back in it, so the game finished 2-1. Following on from the victory over Oostende, the Buffalos have now got six points out of six under Jess Thorup.
KAA Gent came away from KV Oostende with an emphatic victory. In a dominant first half, Limbombe put Gent ahead, and Yaremchuk headed in just before half-time to make it 0-2. The Buffalos continued their dominance in the second half, and when Chakvetadze scored a third after an hour the game was over as a contest. Limbombe had a goal disallowed, but then did score his second, making the final score a resounding 0-4.
On matchday 10, the Buffalos suffered a heavy 1-5 home defeat to KRC Genk. With just 18 minutes gone, Genk had converted their dominance into a 0-2 lead, with goals from Samatta and Paintsil. Ten minutes later, Ndongala added a third. A rare headed goal from Bronn gave Gent hope, but then a second yellow for Dejaegere put paid to the home side's chances. The Buffalos were better after half time, but conceded two more—a long shot from Malinovskyi and a deflected effort by Paintsil—to finish the game on the wrong end of a 1-5 scoreline.
At Bosuil, Rosted opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a beautiful shot on the turn, but Mbokani headed in an equaliser shortly afterwards. The next pivotal point in this fascinating game came from Odjidja, whose screamer into the top corner ensured Gent ended the first half in the lead. Antwerp were stronger after the break, but needed a deflected shot from Haroun to get back on level terms. The final score was 2-2, which was a fair result for both sides.
In the last-16 match of the Croky Cup the Buffalos took the lead in Virton very early on thanks to Awoniyi's header. The enthusiastic home team equalised after half an hour through François and Joachim even made it 2-1 after half-time. In the final quarter Virton crumbled under Ghents' offensive. First Limbombe scored the equaliser and in the 89th minute Awoniyi's diagonal header hit the back of the net. Limbombe finished it off with a nicely placed ball and put the 2-4 final score on the board.
KAA Gent suffered a heavy 4-0 home defeat at the hands of league leaders Club Brugge. The teams were balanced in the first half, with chances at both ends, and Danjuma getting the only goal. But once Wesley doubled the scoreline shortly after the break, Gent could find no way back into the game. Before the final whistle Wesley chalked up two more to complete his hat trick, rounding off a miserable day for the Buffalos.
KAA Gent suffered their second league defeat of the season at home to Sint-Truiden. The home side started well, but then De Sart put the visitors 1-0 up. Gent got their deserved equaliser after the break, when Bronn scored with a screamer, and the Buffalos then went all out for the victory. However, it was Sint-Truiden who came away with the spoils, when Kamada finished off a counter-attack to make it 2-1.
The Buffalos chalked up their fourth league victory in a row, away at Cercle Brugge. Most of the chances fell to Gent in the first half, and it was Verstraete who opened the scoring from the spot. Gent won another penalty after the break, and once again Verstraete hit the back of the net—twice in fact, as the penalty had to be retaken. In injury time, Kalinic sent a long ball to substitute Kvilitaia who finished with aplomb, making the final score 3-0 to the visitors.
KAA Gent was not able to qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Europe League. After the 0-0 in the first game, Kamano gave the home team an early advantage, after which Gent spurned several chances for the equaliser, including Chakvetadze's attempt on the crossbar. In the second half Briand was able to double the lead from the penalty spot. Bordeaux never let go of this situation, which means Gent's European adventure has ended in the Play-Off round.
The East Flanders derby between Gent and Lokeren started off slowly, and none of the few first-half chances were taken. After half time, Gent began to exert their dominance, but it was Cevallos who opened the scoring after a defensive error. However, the Buffalos came back fighting. Firstly De Wolf and the post stopped them getting back on level terms, but then David headed in the equaliser. And the best was yet to come, when debutant Kvilitaia scored with his first touch to make it 2-1, giving Gent all three points.
In the first match of the UEFA Europe League Play-Off, KAA Gent drew 0-0 against Girondins de Bordeaux. Chances were few and far between in the Ghelamco Arena before half time, but in the second half Ghent upped the pace and there were plenty of chances to win the game. The ball would not go in the net though and the result stayed 0-0.
KAA Gent sealed its second competition win of the season at KAS Eupen. Toyokawa gave the home team the lead early on in the match, but Odjidja' super strike and Rosted's on-target header quickly reversed the situation. In the final fifteen minutes it all seemed to go wrong when Odjidja received his second yellow card and Garcia scored a lucky equaliser. But in the dying minutes VAR awarded Gent a penalty and Verstraete converted it to take home all the points.
