KAA Gent has regained a spot in the top-six after a 1-0 win against Standard de Liège. Coulibaly made the difference in the second half when he headed a corner into the net. Gent kept its clean sheet and jumped over Standard to the fifth place in the ranking.

Away at Eupen, Milicevic put Gent in the lead from the penalty spot. Davidzada was sent off in the second half, but Neto managed to double the lead by finishing off a fast counterattack. Sylla scored with a rebound and in the 90th minute Cases scored a controversial equaliser. In the injury time a header from Coulibaly went over the line, but the goal was not awarded. In the very end Taulemesse turned the game around with a winning strike in the left corner, leaving Gent empty-handed.

On matchday three of the UEFA Europa League KAA Gent suffered a 5-0 defeat away at Shakhtar Donetsk. Kovalenko gave the home team a quick lead with a lob and even though both teams were equally strong and had many chances, Ferreyra managed to score 2-0 before the break. Bernard and Taison extended the lead in the second half, while Gent kept missing their chances. Finally Malyshev put the 5-0 on the scoreboard. Gent does remain in second place in group H as the match between Konyaspor and Braga ended in a 1-1 draw.

Our European successes made an impression in Ukraine, as many fans were waiting at the airport hoping to get autographs and take pictures with our players and staff. Coulibaly scored with the head, but the game remained exciting and undecided after Hamalainen hit the post and Saief missed the penalty. Substitute Hannes Van Der Bruggen gave the assist for Moses Simon’s 2-0 and scored the final 3-0 with a hard kick from outside the penalty area.

Kenny Saief scored the first goal and Renato Neto doubled the lead before half-time with a strong header. The second half was more well-balanced, but Gent's victory was never in danger. On Thursday September 22, the community organisation of KAA Gent, named ‘Voetbal in de Stad’, organised a seminar on European Legends, a Walking Football project of EFDN. In the afternoon the HT Gantoise Legends, the Walking Football team of KAA Gent, played its first competition.

Today Matz Sels signed a 5 year contract at Newcastle United. Matz leaves KAA Gent after three seasons with a Belgian Championship title and the Belgian Supercup under his belt. As a Buffalo he also made his debut in the national team and he was one of the key players during our amazing Champions League campaign in 2015-2016. Finally he was elected Best Goalkeeper of Belgium in two separate elections, one of them being awarded by his colleagues.
