Roman Yaremchuk leaves our club through the big gate after 4 seasons with 61 goals and 18 assists in 152 games , a beautiful European campaign in 2019-2020 and a more than successful European Championship this summer. He signed a contract for 5 seasons with the Portuguese top club SL Benfica. From shy boy to confident number nine Yaremchuk signed a contract with the Buffalos on August 16, 2017. The then 21-year-old striker was trained in the youth academy of the Ukrainian Dynamo Kiev . After a successful loan spell with another Ukrainian first division team, FC Oleksandria (17 games, 6 goals and 2 assists), he was recalled to his parent club. However, given the stiff competition, he was unable to break through there, after which he signed a contract in the Ghelamco Arena. Thanks to the support of football legend Andriy Shevchenko, the confidence of the young striker grew noticeably. From a shy boy, who indicated that he was sometimes plagued by fear of failure at away games, he grew, thanks to hard work and investing in himself, into the number 9 of the Buffaloes and homeland Ukraine. In his first season and exactly 25 games, 9 goals and 1 assist after his debut for KAA Gent, Yaremchuk also received his first selection for the national team. Under the care and support of football legend Andriy Shevchenko , the young striker's confidence grew visibly and he became stronger (especially mentally). On the rise due to hard work Yaremchuk managed to boost his stats every season. Where he was initially played as a left wing attacker in his first seasons, over time he forced the position of center striker based on his statistics. And where he quickly stood out with good position play but often still failed in the finish, he continued to work on his first touch and torinstinct both in training, in the fitness and in individual sessions after the training hours. Year after year, the number of goals and assists rose until he exploded in his last two seasons. European level striker Although Jonathan David often walked with the spotlight, the Ghent strikers (and certainly Yaremchuk) had a fantastic start in 2019-2020 . After 12 games (of which Yaremchuk missed three with minor injuries), they had already scored 20 of the 29 Ghent goals by mid-September 2019. Yaremchuk already scored 7 goals and 3 assists after 9 games. That same season he also showed himself in Europe for the first time. With 2 brilliant goals he was the big man at home against Wolfsburg. He also scored a fantastic goal in Wolfsburg in the mighty 1-3 away win. UEFA also noticed that on match day 3, Yaremchuk was elected to the Team of the Week in the 2019-2020 UEFA Europa League . The Buffalos remained unbeaten in the group stage in a group with Wolfsburg, Saint-Etienne and Olexandria and were eventually drawn as the group winner against AS Roma. Due to an operation, Yaremcuk eventually had to miss all matches after the winter break, including the double confrontation with AS Roma. A serious disappointment.
Following the loan agreement with Taiwo Awoniyi, KAA Gent and Liverpool now also closed a loan deal for the 18 years old Colombian defender Anderson Arroyo Cordoba (°27th September 1999). Cordoba can be used as a right or left back. Last season he was loaned to Real Mallorca. Important to know: Liverpool FC were very impressed by the training center facilities and the professional coaching of Taiwo Awoniyi. As soon as Liverpool knew that KAA Gent were looking for an extra defender they proposed Anderson Arroyo Cordoba. So KAA Gent would like to thank Liverpool FC for the confidence in our club and we hope to continue the collaboration in the future!
Mali striker Kalifa Coulibaly is leaving KAA Gent and has signed a contract with FC Nantes. He signed his contract with our club on 21st June 2016 as a switch for the future and a potential replacement whenever Laurent Depoitre would leave the club. Coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck was very enthusiastic about his work rate and his endeavor. Soon Coulibaly showed he was a proven goalscorer who scored important goals, especially in important European games. So his nickname became “Mr.Europe”.
Roman Yaremchuk signed a 4 year contract with KAA Gent today. Yaremchuk, a 21 year old Ukranian striker, is a product of the youth academy at Dynamo Kiev. Last season, from juli until december, he was on loan at Ukranian Premier League team Oleksandria where he scored 5 goals in 11 games, after which he was called back to Dynamo Kiev. After 3 succesful seasons, the Israeli defender, Rami Gershon, is leaving the Buffalo’s and signs a 5 years’ deal with Israeli side Maccabi Haifa. Gershon has been playing in Belgium since 2010 and it was in 2014 that he signed for our club where he became one of the defensive strongholds. During our Championship season (2014-2015) he was one of the regular defenders and became famous for his legendary assist for our first goal in the decisive title match against Standard Luik (21st May 2015). Later on he was struggling with injuries for most of our Champions League campaign and only featured against Wolfsburg for 90 minutes. Rami played up to 101 matches for KAA Gent. He became a familiar legend and was one of the team that eliminated Tottenham last year in the Europa League in our 100th European match. He will always be remembered as a tough, very fair defender who gave the best of himself. Always friendly, on and off the field, always working for the team…THANK YOU RAMI AND GOOD LUCK !
Midfield dynamo DAMIEN MARCQ (°8/12/1988) left Sporting Charleroi to sign a deal with KAA Gent. Last season he was the midfield stronghold and one of the star players of Charleroi. This French player did start his football career with Boulogne and then played for Caen, Dijon and Sedan before coming to Belgium. He is a strong, hardworking and technically skilled midfield player. Another gem for our club!
The 21 years old winger, Lior Inbrum, has signed a 4 years contract with KAA Gent. Lior comes over from the Israelian club FC Ashdod where he used to play as a winger or as a centerforward. He is of Ethiopian origin but has the Israelian nationality.
Franko Andrijasevic (°22/06/1991) has signed a 5 years contract with KAA Gent. He is a very talented freescoring midfielder who features for the national team and who was voted Player of the Year with his former club HNK Rijeka with which he won the double after scoring 18 goals in all competitions together. This is one of the biggest transfers in the history of our club!
Jeremy Taravel is being loaned out (with an option to buy) until the end of the season to Swiss side FC Sion.
