Hein Vanhaezebrouck has announced his selection for the Jupiler Pro League game against R Charleroi SC on Friday evening. The selection contains 19 names, one of them will not make the final selection.
The 19 year old Swedish midfielder Tesfaldet ‘Tess’ Tekie has signed a 3,5 years contract with KAA Gent. Tekie is a young talented midfield player who came from Eritrea to Sweden when he was 8 years old. Last season after the winterbreak he made his debut in the first team of Nörrkoping, the club which finally won the Championship. This season he was a regular player in almost all the matches. Tekie is a creative midfielder with vista and with the capability of giving decisive assists.
After more than 12 years Hannes Van der Bruggen is leaving our club. He has been playing 142 offial matches and he managed to score 14 goals. With KAA Gent he won the Championship title in 2015 as well as the Super Cup. In 2013, Hannes was voted Player of the Year (winning the Jean Claude Bouvy Award) by the supporters.
Birger Verstraete is leaving KV Kortrijk and signed a 3,5 years contract with our club. So the 22 years old midfielder is going to stay with KAA Gent till 2020.
During our training camp in Oliva (Spain) Darko Bjedov did sign a contract with our club for 2,5 years. Bjedov is a 27 years old Serbian striker who comes from the Serbian club Javor. Bjedov was the second best goalgetter at the moment in the Serbian highest division with 10 goals in 20 games.
Samuel Kalu signed a contract with KAA Gent for 3,5 seasons. The 19 year old Nigerian, born on 26/08/1997, was transferred from Slovakian champions AS Trencin and follows in the footsteps of compatriots Moses Simon and Ibrahim Rabiu. Just like Moses Simon he came from the GBS Academy in Nigeria and went to Trencin afterwards. Kalu is a right footed winger, very agile, fast and technically gifted. Samuel signed a contract until 2020 and will find the company of his compatriots Moses Simon, Ibrahim Rabiu, Anderson Esiti and Willem Troost-Ekong at KAA Gent.
Lovre Kalinic heeft een contract voor vier seizoenen getekend bij KAA Gent. De 26-jarige Kroatische doelman komt over van Hajduk Split, waar hij vanuit de jeugdreeksen doorstroomde naar het eerste elftal. Hij is ook Kroatisch international en maakte afgelopen zomer nog deel uit van de selectie voor het EK in Frankrijk. Kalinic ondertekende een contract tot eind juni 2021.
KAA Gent took a very good start against KRC Genk, but Bizot kept the home team level with some fine saves. Genk reacted very efficiently: a strike from Pozuelo and a penalty from Karelis gave Genk a 2-0 advantage before the break. The second half was less attractive and the score didn't change anymore, leaving Gent behind with no points.

Not much happened in an unattractive first half at STVV, but that changed after the break. Gerkens scored twice in four minutes. Mitrovic brought Gent back in the game with a well-placed header, but he received his second yellow card later in the game. With ten against eleven Gent still searched for the equaliser, but it was the home team that managed to score the 3-1 in the end.

KAA Gent has been eliminated in the quarter finals of the Croky Cup, away at KV Oostende. Gent had the best chances before the break, but Matton hit the post and Ovono saved a penalty from Saief. In the second half, Cyriac had the first real chance for the home team and scored, and a few minutes later Dejaegere was sent off after a second yellow card. Gent was not able to equalise and saw Oostende go through to the semi finals.

Last season our former captain Sven Kums made the Champions League team of the group stage, this year our free kick specialist Danijel Milicevic gained a spot in the Europa League team of the group stage. He scored KAA Gent's first goal in the group stage with an incredible free kick against SC Braga (1-1). In the home game against Konya, his assist lead to Neto’s winning goal. Later, Danijel scored the final goal in the home game against Shakhtar (3-5). Furthermore, he also scored the equaliser in the important game against Braga in our Ghelamco Arena (2-2). Milicevic completed a succesful campaign in which he made the difference in key moments. Together with Leon Bailey of KRC Genk, Milicevic represents the Belgian teams in this Europa League team. Edin Dzeko, AS Roma attacker and Milicevic' teammate at the Bosnian national team, also made the team. Congratulations Danijel!
