The first half between Mechelen and Gent was an exciting affair. Yaremchuk opened the scoring after ten minutes, before Storm levelled five minutes later. Both sides had several more chances before the break, but neither could capitalise on them. Things became much more tepid after half time, with Thoelen and Bolat only having a couple of saves to make. So the game ended 1-1, with both sides picking up a point.
Yaremchuk came close to putting Gent into an early lead at home against R Excel Mouscron, but had to wait until the 28th minute to get on the scoresheet. The Buffalos then looked to increase their lead, but Kums struck the post and Koffi made a number of great stops. They finally got a second in the 70th minute, through substitute Tissoudali. In the closing stages, Yaremchuk chalked up two more goals, both from Odjidja assists. Thanks to this hat-trick, the striker's second of the season, Gent ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.
In their home tie against R Charleroi SC in the last sixteen of the Croky Cup, the Buffalos could not have got off to a worse start, finding themselves behind in the first minute thanks to a great strike from Nicholson. Gent struggled to impose themselves for the rest of the half, but were an improved outfit after the break. Once Yaremchuk had made it 1-1 with fifteen minutes to go, the game turned on its head. Odjidja, on as a substitute, put the Buffalos in front, before Berahino's own goal five minutes before time assured the boys from Ghent of a quarter-final spot.
